Advent Sunday (27 November) – the start of the new church year
“Yes, I am coming soon.” Amen. Come, Lord Jesus. (Revelation 22:20)
On Sunday we start the new church year with Advent Sunday and the time of expectation for Christmas. This week, an extract from Music of Eternity by Robyn Wrigley-Carr.
God constantly comes to His people. However, if our lives are filled with activities and noise, it won’t be easy to hear the barely audible music of God’s loving Presence! He often comes softly, in places and ways that surprise us, and his comings are rarely what we expect, so we generally miss their earthly disguise. Cultivating a spirit of Advent is essential, for our spiritual lives depend on God’s perpetual coming to us. Let us learn the art of listening to the Spirit’s whisper. This involves attentive waiting and watching for what God is doing among us and within us, and humble, eager expectancy, so we can welcome, notice and celebrate God’s coming.
Church Advent Book
As a church we are recommending an Advent book: 24 devotions of a few pages each to be read every day of December until Christmas Day. This year we are reading Gifts of Grace by Jared C Wilson. If you would like a copy, they are available for £5 at Sunday services.
